ワークキャンプ 3週間

Jambo! (English after Japanese)

なかなか更新出来ずにいました…

最近何をしていたかと言うと、

約3週間、西部のOyugisでワークキャンプをしていました。

ワークキャンプでは、数カ国から集まったメンバーと共に生活しながら、ボランティア活動を行います。

期間の短いメンバーもいましたが、今回はケニア、フランス、スペイン、ギリシャ、イタリア、日本の6ヶ国8人でした。

I couldn't write the blog for a long time....
Recently I stayed in Oyugis, west part in Kenya. I had joined the work camp for three weeks.
The work camp is living with other people from some countries and doing volunteer activities.
Some of us were short stay but at this work camp, there were eight people from six countries, which Kenya, France, Spain, Greece, Italy and Japan.

どんな活動をしていたかというと、

小学校で自分の国について少し紹介したり

teaching own countries in elementary school,

生徒の家を訪問したり

visiting students house and talking,

  

メイズ(とうもろこし)の収穫を手伝ったり

helping to harvest corn,

 

木を植えたり

planting trees,

 

教会に行ったり

going to the church,

 

子供たちと話したり

tallking with children,

 

踊ったり

dancing,

フットボールしたり

playing football,

…こんな感じです。

基本は小学校がベースでした。

たくさんの子供たち、先生が私の名前を覚えてくれて、日本語の挨拶を覚えてくれて、お互いの国のことを話して、スワヒリ語や現地語を教えてもらって、ケニア料理を教えてもらって…

生徒も先生も、たくさん質問してきます。

食べ物、スポーツ、音楽などの文化だけでなく、教育制度や宗教、政治についてよく聞かれました。

ケニアはキリスト教徒が多いのですが、敬虔な人が多いように感じます。宗教は、彼らの生活にとってとても身近というか、生活の基本になっているのかなと思います。

子供たちとは、本当にたくさんの話をしました。 

日本についてほとんど何も知らなかった子供たちが、少しでも日本のことを覚えてくれたら、それはとても嬉しいことだし、私がここに来た意味があったのかなと思います。

また、ケニアだけでなくフランスやスペインなど、他の国についても知ることが出来たのは面白かったです。

仲間の貴重品の紛失、体調不良など大変なこともありましたが、それ以上に楽しい思い出がたくさん出来ました。

(大変な話については、また今度にしようと思います…)

Many children and teachers remembered my name, they remembered Japanese greetings, we talked about each other's countries, they taught me Swahili and local language, we cooked Kenyan dishes...

Both students and teachers asked a lot of questions, not only the culture such as food, sports and music but also educational system, religion and politics.
In Kenya, there are many Christian. And it seems that many people are very devout. I think religion is very important for their life.

We talked about various topics with children.
If children who hardly knew Japan know Japan, I am so happy and it was worth for me and children.

Also it was interesting for me to know many countries such as France and Spain, not only Kenya.
Sometimes we had a hard time. For example, someone lost phone and someone had Malaria...But I had more fun time here. I really enjoyed and felt thankful.
