ケニアに来て10日！
日々カルチャーショックの連続です。
でも、少しずつケニアの生活にも慣れてきました。
カルチャーショックの一つ、”時間” についてお話します。
ケニアの人は、時間がゆっくりです。
ある日のこと。
首都ナイロビからカカメガ(私の滞在している町)までバスで行こうとした日。
ナイロビからカカメガまでは、バスで約8時間です。
21時に出発です。
ケニア人の友達が一緒に行ってくれることになっていたので、私は待ち合わせ場所のホテルで待っていました。
20:30に待ち合わせだと思っていましたが、時間になっても来ないので、心配になって電話してみます。
「ごめんね〜今バスに乗ってるけど、すぐ着くよ！大丈夫！」
大丈夫と言われたので、とりあえず待ってみます。
しかし、21時15分前、10分前、5分前…
5分前になったあたりで
「21時出発だと思ってたけど、違ったのかもしれない」
という考えがよぎります。というか、きっとそうなんだと言い聞かせます。
そして、21時をちょっと過ぎた頃、友達が来ました。
「ごめんね〜道が渋滞してて！」
「いいよ〜道混んでるもんね。あれ、バスって何時出発だっけ？」
と聞いてみます。
「21時！でも21時には出発しないし、予約してて来なかったらバスの人が電話して待ってくれるから大丈夫だよ」
とのことです。
緩いというかなんというか…
でも、遅れても待ってくれるって、ちょっと優しいなぁと思いました。
結局、バスは22:15に出発しました。
今日もまた、ホストマザーが
「17時にちょっと出掛けるね。16:30に待ち合わせなんだけど、みんな時間には来ないからね〜ははは」
こんな感じです。
待ち合わせは、プラス15〜30分くらいで考えればいいみたいです…
日本と同じ感覚でいると、色々フィットしないみたいです。
ケニアの感覚に慣れたら、今度は日本に戻った時が心配です…

Ten days passed since I arrived in Kenya!
Everday, I experienced many culture shock.
But, little by little, I've got used to the life in Kenya.
Today, I will talk about one of the culture shock "Time".
It seemed that time is slow in Kenya.
One day, it was a day that I departed Nairobi to Kakamega, where the town I stay in now.
It takes about eight hours by the bus.
It supposed to the bus depart at 21:00.
I waited my friend who was a Kenyan at the hotel. We said " Let's meet up at 20:30". It was 20:30, but my friend didn't come. So I worry about my friend and I called her. She said " I'm sorry. I'm on the bus now. I'm coming soon. No problem!" So I continued wait. Ten minutes passed, fifteen minutes passed, twenty minutes passed...I wondered, departure time wasn't 21:00. Finally, my friend came just after 21:00. She said " Sorry to late. Traffic jam was so heavy..." I said " I see. It's okay. Well, what time the bus depart again?" And she said " 21:00. But the bus doesn't depart nine pm. And if you have arranged the bus then you don't go, they will call you and they will wait for you to come."
I was surprised. I can't imagine in Japan...But I think, it's kind because they wait people.
At last, the bus departed 22:15.
Also today, my host mother said " I will go out 17:00. Actually it's supposed to meet 16:30, but you know, people in here won't come at this time." Then she laughed.
It seems that I should add fifteen to thirty minutes...
It's very different from Japan, where very strict with time.
Now I worry about,If I get used to time in Kenya, how will I do when I will back Japan...
