Jambo!

ケニアの首都、ナイロビの観光地をいくつか紹介します。

連続してではないですが、合計すると約3週間ナイロビに滞在していました。
選挙の前後は室内にこもっていたわけですが、それなりに観光もしました。

Today I'll tell you some sightseeing places in Nairobi.
I stayed at Nairobi sometimes. It's about three weeks in total. During the election, I just stayed inside but still I visited many places.

・ジラフセンター

キリンが10頭ほど飼育されています。キリンにエサを与えることが出来ます。エサを口にくわえて待ち構えていると、キリンとキスも出来ます。
館内にはお土産が買えるお店と、軽食を提供しているカフェがあります。
それほど広くはありませんが、キリンはとても可愛いです。また、キリンをこれほど間近で見ることは中々出来ないと思います。

ちなみに、料金を支払う際に年齢を聞かれ、「22歳」と答えると子供料金になりました。なぜかは分かりませんが、得した気分でした。

開園時間 9:00〜17:30
料金 1000sh (子供 500sh)

・Giraffe Center
There are about ten giraffes. We can feed them. If you hold feeding stuff on your lips, you can kiss them.
There are souvenir shops and cafes you can eat some snacks.
It was not so big center, but giraffes were very cute. And I think there are not so many places we can see giraffes closely.

By the way, when officer asked me my age, I answered "22." I don't know why but I could enter there in children fee.

・国立博物館

ケニアに生息する動物の剥製が展示されています。またケニアの伝統的な暮らしや、民族の文化についても知ることができます。
カフェや、お土産を買えるお店もありました。

開園時間 8:30〜17:30
料金 1200sh (子供 600sh)、ヘビ園とセットで1500sh (子供 1000sh) 

・National Museum
There are a lot of stuffed animals which live in Kenya. Also you can see traditional lifestyle in Kenya and tribes cultures.
There are souvenir shops and cafes.

Opening time 8:30-17:30
Entrance Fee 1200sh (children 600sh), set with Snake Park 1500sh (children 1000sh)

・ヘビ園
国立博物館のすぐ隣にあります。
ケニアに生息するたくさんのヘビが飼育されています。飼育員がヘビに触らせてくれます。カメやワニ、魚もいます。

開園時間 9:00〜18:00
料金 1200sh (子供 600sh)

・Snake Park
It places just next to National Museum. There are various snakes which live in Kenya. If you want, you can touch snakes. There are also tattle, crocodile and fish.

Opening Time 9:00-18:00
Entrance Fee 1200sh (children 600sh) 

・マサイマーケット

洋服、布、アクセサリー、動物の彫刻、お皿、キーホルダー、楽器…など、ありとあらゆるものが売られています。けっこう広いです。逆引きが少ししつこいです。
外国人だけだと、かなり高額の外国人価格で買うことになります。ケニア人の友達がいる場合は、一緒に来てもらうことをお勧めします。また、閉店が近い夕方の方が値段が下がるそうです。

営業日時 土曜日、日曜 〜18:00頃まで

・Masai Market
You can buy various souvenirs like clothes, accessory, curving shaped animals, plates, keychains, music instrument and so on. It's quite a large. Many shop staffs will speak to you.
If you visit with only foreigners, you have to a lot of money to buy things. So if you have a Kenyan friends, I recommend you to visit there with them. Also I heard that you can buy cheaper in the evening because it'll close soon.

Opening Day and Time Saturday, Sunday -about 18:00

・ヒルトン・アーケード

写真はヒルトン・アーケードを撮したものではありませんが、ヒルトン・アーケードも位置するナイロビタウンの様子です。
建物の中に、お土産を買えるお店が2軒あります。マサイマーケットには及びませんが、ここでも様々な種類のものを買うことが出来ます。値段交渉は出来ませんが、もともとの値段も安いです。

・Hilton Arcade
This photo was took in Nairobi town, it isn't Hilton Arcade. Hilton Arcade places in Nairobi town.
There are two shops where you can buy souvenirs in the building. There aren't so many varieties of stuff compared with Masai market, but still there are a lot of souvenirs. Here you can't discount but original price is cheap.

・ウフルパーク

広い公園です。軽食や飲み物が売られています。池ではボートに乗ることも出来ます。
一休みするには良い場所かと思います。

・Uhuru Park
It is a large park. You can buy some snakes and drinks. In the pond, you can enjoy boarding small boat. It's a good place to rest a little.

・てりやきジャパン
名前の通り、照り焼きを食べることが出来ます。照り焼き以外にもメニューはあります。
ケニアに日本食のレストランは少ないと思うので、日本食が恋しくなったらここに来るといいでしょう。価格は少し高いですが、味はとても良かったです。私が行った時には、2名の日本人スタッフが働いていました。

営業時間 月〜土曜 7:00〜21:00、日曜 11:00〜19:00

・Teriyaki Japan
It's a Japanese restaurant. Teriyaki is a Japanese dishes which backed chicken with sources.
There aren't so many Japanese restaurant in Kenya, so if you want to eat Japanese food in Kenya, I recommend you to go this restaurant. It's not cheap but tastes was delicious. When I went there, two Japanese stuff worked.

Opening Time :Monday-Saturday 7:00-21:00, Sunday 11:00-19:00

・JAVA
都市部にあるカフェです。チェーン店で、ナイロビや近郊都市で何店舗か見ました。美味しいコーヒーが飲めます。マフィンやケーキなどのデザートから、サンドイッチやフライドポテトなどの軽食まで、メニューも豊富です。価格は高めですが、店内は広く、ゆっくりと時間を過ごすことが出来ます。wifiもあります。

・JAVA
It's a coffee cafe in the city. It's a chain store. You can enjoy various drinks and dishes such as tasty coffee, muffins, cakes, sandwiches, French fries and etc. It's not so cheap but you can spend a relax time in the spacious store interior. Also you can use wifi.

また、ジラフセンター、国立博物館、ヘビ園の上記の料金は、全て外国人価格です。ケニア人の料金は、半額かそれ以下です。

Fees wrote above, Giraffe Center, National Museum and Snake Park, are for foreigners. It's cheaper if you are Kenyan people or residents in Kenya.

モンバサ一人旅

ケニア第二の都市、モンバサへ行ってきました！

モンバサはケニア南部、インド洋に面した都市です。

ナイロビからバスで10時間でした。(バスはいくつか種類がありますが、私が利用したModern Coast は1400sh。22:00に出発し、翌朝8:00に到着しました。)

 I visited Mombasa, which is the second largest city in Kenya.
Mombasa places at south part of Kenya, and faces at Indian Ocean.
It took ten hours from Nairobi by bus. (22:00-8:00) There are some buses which connect Nairobi and Mombasa, but I used Modern Coast. It costed 1400sh.

・フォート・ジーザス

開園時間 8:00〜18:00

入場料 1200sh(18歳以下 600sh)

1593年にポルトガル人が造った砦です。彼らは植民地化を試みましたが、アラブ勢力の抵抗で失敗に終わりました。

私は中には入らず、ただ外から眺めてきました。とても大きく、完成から400年以上経った今でも中々の存在感を放っていました。

フォート・ジーザス、オールド・タウン、マーケットはガイドの人に案内してもらいました。(約1時間、400sh。値段交渉可能。) 特にオールドタウンは道も細かく入り組んでいるため、ガイドに頼んだ方が楽に回れます。

初めて見ましたが、迫力があります。

・Fort Jesus
Opening Hours 8:00-18:00
Entrance Fee 1200sh (under 18 years old 600sh)

It is a fort made by Portuguese in 1593. They made it to colonized Mombasa but they couldn't because of the resistance of Arabic people.
I just saw it from outside, I didn't enter it. It was really big and beautiful.

The guide showed me Fort Jesus to Old Town. I paid him 400sh. You can negotiate the price with guide. Especially Old Town has a narrow and complicated load, so if you want to visit there I recommend you to ask the guide.

The second photo is a Baobab tree. It was a first time for me to see it. It was really big and had a full impact.

・オールド・タウン

 

オールド・タウンには、ムスリムの人がたくさん住んでいます。道が狭く、建物の造りも違っていて、違う国に来たような錯覚に陥ります。

このように、モスクが至る所に建っていました。

コーランを復唱する子供達もいました。

タウン内にあるサンダルのお店。

ここでサンダルを作っていました。カラフルで、見ているだけでも楽しいです。

  ・Old Town
In Old Town, a lot of Muslim people live. There are narrow loads, different types of buildings...these things made me felt as if I was in a different country.
The second photo is a mosque. There are many mosques there.
The third photo are sandals. Some craftspeople were making sandal at the shop. Sandals are colorful and cute. You can enjoy buying sandals and also just only seeing these beautiful sandals.

・マーケット

お店に入った途端、ふわーっとスパイスの香りがしました。チリ、ナツメグ、ジンジャー、シナモン、バニラ…などなど、たくさんのスパイスが売られています。

野菜や果物がたくさんです。観光客と地元民でとても賑わっていました。

港町なので、魚の市場もあります。

・Market
The first photo is a spice market. When you enter here, soon you will notice smell of various spices. You can buy a lot of types spices such as chili, nutmeg, ginger, cinnamon,vanilla...and so on.
The second photo is a fruit and vegetables market. There were many sightseeing people and local people.
The third photo is a fish market. Mombasa is a port city, so there were a lot of fish there.

・ディア二・ビーチ

ハイシーズン(12月)でないこともあり、人は少なかったです。静かなビーチです。

リゾートホテルがいくつか並んでいました。

値段は高めですが、レストランもあります。

白い浜も、透き通るような海もとても綺麗でした。

一人でいると、土産物屋がやたらと声をかけてくるので、のんびりビーチで過ごすのは難しいです。

アクセス

タウンからマタツでLikoni Ferry(リコニ・フェリー)乗り場へ(10〜30sh)。フェリーで対岸へ、約10分、無料。Ukumda(ウグンダ)までマタツで約30分、50〜100sh。トゥクトゥクでビーチまで約10分、50〜100sh。

・Diani Beach
There were not so many people there because it's not high season(December) now. It was a quiet beach.
There were some resort hotels. It's a little bit expensive but there were also restaurants. White beach and transparency sea were really beautiful.
But if you visit alone, many local people who sells souvenirs speak to you, so it's a little difficult to just relax on the beach.

Access
From town to Likoni Ferry terminal by matatu, it will cost 10-30sh. Then you take the ferry, it will take 10 minutes and it's free. Next you will go to Ukumda by matatu, it will take 30 minutes and it will cost 50-100sh. Finally you will go to the beach by tuktuk, it'll take 10 minutes and it'll cost 50-100sh.

・ホテル

Solomon's Castle Hotel に泊まりました。

泊まった部屋と、レストランの様子です。

料金 1500sh(朝食付き)

カヤ、テレビ有り。シャワーはお湯が使えます。バスタオルと石鹸もありました。wifiはフロントとレストラン付近で利用可能。レストランは朝食時のみオープン。

外の音が少し気になるのと、タウンの中心部からは少し離れていますが、値段の割にとても良いホテルでした。

 ・Hotel
I stayed at Solomon's Castle Hotel.
Fee 1500sh (including breakfast)
There were mosquito nets and TV. You can you shower in hot water. There were also bath towels and soap. You can use wifi near the front entrance and restaurant. Restaurant is only available at breakfast.
It is a little bit far from city center and there were a little noise from outside, but it was a nice hotel with good price.

・SGR

モンバサとナイロビを結ぶ列車。

今年出来たばかりなので、綺麗で清潔感がありました。 

所要時間 4〜5時間

運賃 ファースト3000sh、エコノミー700sh

私はエコノミーに乗りました。席はそれほど広くはないですが、特に問題はなかったです。

モンバサのターミナルはタウンから離れていますが、タウン内の旧モンバサ駅からバスが出ています。

ナイロビのターミナルも中心部から離れていますが、タクシーもたくさん停まっていますし、タウン行きのバスも停まっています。

・SGR
It is s train connect Mombasa with Nairobi. It was completed in this year so it was very clean.
From Mombasa to Nairobi, it took 4-5 hours.

Fare first class: 3000sh, economy class: 700sh

I used a economy class. The seats was not so big but it was still comfortable.

Mombasa terminal is a little bit far from city center, but you can go there by bus from old Mombasa station in city center. Also Nairobi terminal is far from city center, but you can go to city center by taxi or bus. So you don't have to worry about distance.

2泊3日(1泊バス内)の弾丸旅行、楽しかったです。

一人旅でしたが、やはり感じるのは、外国人だけだと交通費や何かを買うにしても高くとられます。

また、私はバスで行き電車で帰ってきましたが、電車がおすすめです。速くて安いので。

 It was very short time trip but I enjoyed it so much!

But it was same as other places in Kenya, local people charged for foreigners expensive.

And if you visit Mombasa from Nairobi, I recommend you to use train rather than bus because it's cheaper and faster.

ビクトリア湖

ケニアでは1ヶ月前に大統領選挙が行われました。

しかしなんと、選挙をやり直すそうです。

どういうことかというと…

選挙に敗れた野党党首が、最高裁判所に"選挙のやり直しを求める異議申し立て"をしていました。

審議の結果、最高裁判所は先週の金曜日9月1日に、”60日以内に大統領選挙をやり直す”と決定しました。

衝撃でした。どうせ異議申し立てとかしたって結果は変わらないだろうと思っていたら、まさかこうなるとは…

ちなみに、大統領選挙のやり直しはアフリカ初だそうです。

前置きが長くなりましたが、少し前の7月末に行った、ビクトリア湖の話をしようと思います。

ビクトリア湖はアフリカ最大の湖です。

ケニア、ウガンダ、タンザニアが面しています。

ケニアだけでも、ビクトリア湖に面した町はたくさんあります。

私はHoma Bayを訪れました。

In Kenya, we had a presidential election one month ago. However surprisingly, we will do it over again. Let me explain why...
Opposition leader who lost the election did objection of the election to Supreme Court. As the result of deliberation, at 1st September, they decided that we will have the presidential election over again within sixty days.
It was so shocking for me. I didn't imagine it...
By the way it seems that it'll be the first time to do the presidential election over again in Africa.

It was a little bit long introduction, but today, I would like to talk about Lake Victoria, where I visited on July.
Lake Victoria is a largest lake in Africa.
It faces Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
I visited Homa Bay.

とにかく大きいです。

海みたいです。

 「湖の向こう側は違う国につながってるんだ…」

想像すると、なんだかワクワクしませんか？

ボートに乗ることもできます。

小さなボートで8人乗りくらいです。

約15分、湖をちょっと見て戻ってくるみたいな感じです。

料金は忘れてしまいましたが、1人100シリング(約100円)はしなかったと思います。

Lake was really big, it was like a sea.

Please imagine that there are other countries beyond the lake...isn't it exciting?

You can ride the boat.

It was small boat like eight people can board.

About fifteen minutes, you can see around on the lake.

I forgot the fee but I think it was less than 100sh(about one dollar) per person.

周りはとても静かです。

のんびり歩くことが出来ます。

 Road near the lake was very quiet.

You can just relax and walk on your pace.

道路に沿って20分ほど歩くと、マーケットやレストランのある場所に着きます。

マタツ(乗り合いバス)はほとんど走ってませんが、ボダボダ(バイクタクシー)は走ってるので、歩き疲れていたらボダボダでもいいでしょう。

私はレストランで”ティラピア”を食べました。

ティラピアは、ビクトリア湖で獲れる白身の魚です。

油で揚がった形で出て来ました。特に臭みなどはなく、美味しかったです。

 ケニア西部まで来ることがあれば、ぜひビクトリア湖まで足を運んでみて下さい。

When you walk about twenty minutes along the street, you can get to the small town where there are some restaurant and market.
There are few matatu(small bus) but you can go to town by bodaboda(bike taxi).

I ate tilapia at the restaurant.

Tilapia is a white fish which are caught in Lake Victoria. Tilapia I ordered was flied. It was delicious.

If you have a chance to visit west part of Kenya, I recommend you to visit Lake Victoria.

マタツの乗り方

ケニアでよく見るこの乗り物が、マタツです。

小型のバスみたいなものです。
マタツの乗り方と、特徴を紹介します。

This vehicle is "matatu". You can see a lot of matatu in Kenya. It's like a small bus. Since I came here, I've used it so many times.
Today I will introduce you to how to use it and features of matatu.

利用方法

1. 乗り場                                                                       乗り場はだいたい決まっています。しかし、「マタツ乗り場」みたいな看板は無いので、初めての場所では現地の人に聞いてみると良いでしょう。
2. 乗車                                                                         マタツが来たら、添乗員に行き先を伝えてみましょう。行き先を通過する場合は、「オッケー！乗って！」という感じに言われるので乗ります。
3. 運賃の支払い                                                            席に座って一息つくと、運賃を支払うように言われます。運賃は、なるべくぴったりの額を渡すことをお勧めします。ぴったり払えない場合も、なるべく少額で渡しましょう。20シリング硬貨か、50シリング紙幣などがいいですね。多く渡すと、外国人にはお釣りがちゃんと返ってこなかったりするので注意しましょう。また、運賃が分からない場合は、近くの人に聞いてみましょう。添乗員に聞くと外国人価格になるので、乗客に聞くことをお勧めします。
4. 降車                                                                           降車場所もだいたい決まっています。「次は○○に到着します」なんてアナウンスはありません。なので、現在地が分からなかったり、降りたい場所の名前は分かるけど初めてだからどんな場所か分からない、という時は、近くに座っている人に「ここどこ？○○で降りたいんだけど」と声を掛けてみましょう。そうするとほとんどの場合、着いた時に「ここだよ！」と教えてくれます。うっかりしていると、降りそびれたりするので気を付けましょう。

以上が、基本的なマタツの乗り方です。
また、始発地点のような所があります。マタツがずらっと並んでいて、歩いていると「どこ行くの？」と声を掛けられるので、行き先を言うと「じゃああのマタツだよ！」と教えてくれます。

マタツの特徴

1. 常に満員                                                                   本来の定員は、おそらく14人です。しかし、ほとんどの場合それ以上の人が乗っています。2人掛けの所に3人、3人掛けの所に4人、木の板の即席補助席も登場します。小さい子は大人の膝の上に座ります。また、マタツに時刻表というものはありません。満員になったら出発します。満員に見えるので乗るのは無理だと思っても、「大丈夫！乗れるよ〜！」とか言われてぎゅうぎゅう詰めのマタツに乗ることもしばしば。
2. 大音量の音楽                                                          たいていの場合、ケニアの音楽が大音量で流されています。 
3. 揺れが激しい                                                          道が全て舗装されているわけではないのと、運転が荒いせいでとても揺れます。頭上や壁、窓などに注意しましょう。

マタツのことだけで、これだけ長文を書いた自分に驚きます。笑
ケニアでマタツを利用する際の参考になればと思います。
最後に、マタツに乗る時は貴重品の管理にも気を付けましょう。

The Way To Use Matatu

1. The Place For Boarding  Matatu                                Most of the case, you can board it at specific places. But there aren't signboard like "Matatu station"...So when you use it for the first time, you can ask local people like " Where should I wait for matatu? I want to go Nairobi"
2. Taking a Matatu                                                        When matatu arrived, you can tell to conductor that where you want to go. He/She will say "Ok. You can ride this." or "Sorry but please use another one."
3. Payment For Fee                                                    After you sit down, you will be asked to pay fees. I recommend to offer money precisely if you can. Even if you can't, you should offer money in small, like 20sh coin or 50sh bill. Because if you offer a lot of money, sometimes conductor will not give back change correctly especially for foreigners. Also I recommend to ask fee to neighbors if you don't know fee. I don't think it's a good idea that asking fee to conductor because they often tell expensive fee to foreigners...
4. Getting Off                                                                 It's same as boarding places, mostly you can get off matatu in specific places. But there aren't announcements like "Soon we will arrive Nairobi ." So if you don't know where you are in now, or you know the name of place but you don't know where it is, you can ask neighbors. Local people will be help you. If you relax too much on matatu, you will miss getting off so please be careful.

These were the way to use matatu basically. Also there are places like starting stations. There are many matatus. When you walk these places, conductors will ask you "Where do you want to go?" Then you will tell where you want to go. They will tell you which matatu you should board.

Features Of Matatu

1. Always Crowded                                                Maybe capacity is 14 people by all rights. But mostly there are more people boarding. Where capacity is two people, three people sit. Where capacity is three people, people sit four. Also you will see wooden booster seat. Children will sit on their parents. And there aren't time table for matatu. It will start when it will be full people. Sometimes I waited matatu then it seemed full so I thought I couldn't board it. But conductor said " No it's okay! You can board." so I used too full people matatu.
2. Loud Music                                                                 In most of matatu, you will hear Kenyan music very loudly.
3. Intense Shaking                                                Matatu is shaking intense because sometimes loads aren't maintained and some drivers drive roughly. Please be careful with overheard, wall and windows.

It was surprisingly that I wrote such a long only about matatu...lol
I hope this article can be useful when you use matatu in Kenya.
Also please be careful about your belongings when you use matatu.

ケニアの美容室

先日、美容室に行きました。

A few days ago, I went to salon.

女性が3人いますが、3人がかりで私の髪を編んでいるわけではありません。

一番右側の女性が編んでくれました。

他の2人は、おそらく友人なのでしょう。私の髪が編まれている間、おしゃべりしていました。

There were three women but not everyone plaited my hair. 

Woman who stood right side plaited.

Maybe the others were her friends. While she plaited my hair, I chatted with them.

「なんで編み込みたいの？ケニアっぽいから？あら〜あなたケニアが好きなのね」

「キクユ語(現地語)分かる？じゃあスワヒリ語は？(国語)」

「日本ではこういう髪型しないの？」

「キクユ人と結婚したい？」

" Why do you want to plait your hair? Does it look Kenyan? Oh you like Kenya, don't you?"

" Do you know Kikuyu(local language)? How about Swahili(national language)?"

" In Japan, doesn't people plait like this?"

" Do you want to marry Kikuyu people?"

…一時間後。

...A hour later.

この髪から

Before plaited my hair.

こうなりました。

After.

料金 350シリング(約350円)でした。

It costed 350 shiring. (about 3.5 US dollars)

ちなみに…

ケニアの人の髪は、日本人とは違っていて、長く伸ばそうと思っても真っ直ぐに伸びません。

細かく縮れているため、伸ばし続けると、ボリューミーなアフロみたくなるそうです。

なので、髪を長く見せたい場合、エクステのようなものを使います。

By the way, Kenyan people's hair are different from Japanese ones. Their hair is curly or kinky or frizzy hair, it doesn't grow straight. I heard that if they don't cut their hair, it will be like Afro-hair. So if they want to have long hairs, they use  hair extensions.

こんな感じのものが、スーパーなどでもたくさん売られています。

黒や茶色のほか、赤などもあります。

Such like this, we can buy these at salon or supermarket.

There are a lot of color variation like black, brown and red.

ケニアに行った際には、美容室に行くのも面白いですよ！

ケニア人受けも良いです。笑

新たな場所で

先週から、また別の地に移動しました。

首都のナイロビからバスで1時間弱の、Thikaという町にいます。

KIOF (Kenya Institute of Organic Farming) というNGOで、ボランティアとして活動しています。

(KIOFの詳細は、この記事の最後に書いています。)

農業は…実家の庭の畑を手伝った経験くらいです…。なので、日々新たな経験をしています。

多数のケニア人と、数名のウガンダ人に囲まれて生活しています。

2週間弱経ち、少しずつ慣れてきました。

そんな私の、最近の一日の流れを紹介しようと思います。

Since last week, I've stayed Thika where it takes about an hour from Nairobi by bus.
I come here as a volunteer of KIOF (Kenya Institute of Organic Farming).
(I wrote KIOF in details at the below.)

I haven't farmed a lot, I've only helped farming my house's garden. So everyday I've learned new things. There are many people from Kenya and a few people from Uganda. Now about two weeks passed, I'm getting used to hear little by little.

Today I would like to show you how the day it is here.

7:00 起床

 

朝食をとり、身支度をします。朝食はだいたいティーのみ。

豚、ヤギにエサをあげます。

水が足りなくなっていたら、水もあげます。

牛は、小屋から牧草地へと移動させます。

We feed pigs and goats. If there are no water, we also give them water. And wr take cows to glass land from their hut.

10:30 ティータイム

ケニアで言うティーは、ミルクと砂糖がたっぷりのミルクティーのことです。ティーを飲みながら休憩します。

Kenyan tea is a milk tea with a lot of sugar. We enjoy tea and relax.

11:00 畑

メイズの収穫や、収穫済のメイズの苗を刈り取ります。刈り取った苗木は、家畜のエサになります。

We harvest maize, cut maize's glass and dry maize. Maize's glass becomes meals for animals.

13:00 ランチ

よく食べるのは、豆と米が混ざったものか、ギゼリ(豆とメイズを煮たもの)。

We often eat rice with beans or githeri(cooked beans and maize).

14:00 家畜の世話、畑

畑の片付けや、犬のエサを用意します。犬は、ペットではなく番犬です。ヤギや豚のエサも足りなくなっていたら足します。

We take care of vegetables fields and prepare the meal for dogs. Dogs are watchdogs, not pets. If goats and pigs need more food, we feed them again.

16:00 仕事終了

洗濯や、シャワー。シャワーは水なので、気温の下がる前の夕方に済ませます。あとは必要なものがあれば、近くのお店に行ったりもします。

I wash my clothes and take a shower. When I take shower, water is cold so I do it before night, when getting cooler. Also if I want to buy something, I go to small shop nearby.

夕食後は日記を書いたり、読書したり、メールやメッセージをチェックしたり、のんびりしています。

土日はフリーなので、どこかに出掛けたり、KIOFのディレクターの家におじゃまさせてもらったりしています。

...in weekdays, my life is such like this. In weekend, I have a free time so I often go out somewhere or visit KIOF directors' house.

最後に、KIOFについて。

Kenya Institute of Organic Farming

KIOFは、有機農業について学べる学校を運営するNGO(非政府組織)です。環境に優しく、美味しい野菜が採れる有機栽培をケニア中に広めるべく、1987年から活動しています。

キャンパスには、座学を受ける教室、コンピューター教室(生産物の売買に必要なPCスキルを学ぶため)、様々な野菜が栽培されている畑があり、豚、牛、ヤギなどの家畜も飼育されています。

1〜2週間などの短期間のコースから、長期の2年間のコース、インターネットを利用して自宅で受講出来るコースなどがあります。周辺の地域で農業を行う住民や、有機農業を学びたいという学生のほか、遠い地域からも農業を行う人が来るようです。

Finally, I will tell you about KIOF.

Kenya Institute of Organic Farming

KIOF is a technical training institution of organic farming, and Non-Governmental Organization (NGO). They have started activities since 1987. Their aim is spreading organic farming, which is good for the environment and produce healthy and tasty vegetables, in Kenya.

In the campus, there are classrooms including PC room(Now farmers need PC skills when they sell and buy products.),  fields for various vegetables, also there are many animals like cows, goats and pigs. 

There are some courses such as 1-2 weeks or 2 years. Also there are distance learning courses. There are not only students from neighboring district, but also students from far places.

大統領選挙

Jambo! (English after Japanese)

ケニアでは先週火曜日、8月8日に大統領選挙の投票が行われました。

投票日の前後でどのような動きがあったか、振り返ってみます。

 

投票日直前の週末、ナイロビの様子です。

最大野党NASAの支持者が、NASAを応援する歌を大音量でかけながら歩いています。

道行く人や車に乗っている人に、旗や広告を配っていました。

お祭り騒ぎです。

与党Jubileeのそうした様子は直接見ませんでしたが、街では"Jubilee"の文字が入った赤いTシャツを着ている与党支持者がたくさんいました。

8日、投票日。

朝7時から夕方5時が投票時間だったと思います。

この日の夜に結果が出るものかと思っていましたが、結果は中々出ず…

結局、3日後の11日、夜8時過ぎに選挙管理委員会による発表がありました。

発表の翌日…

　ケニアで８日に投票された大統領選で選挙管理委員会は１１日夜、現職のケニヤッタ大統領が再選されたと発表した。敗れた野党連合候補のオディンガ元首相陣営は「大規模な不正が行われた」と結果の受け入れを拒否する姿勢を示しており、両陣営の間で緊張が高まっている。

　選管発表によるとケニヤッタ氏の得票率は５４・２７％で、オディンガ氏は４４・７４％。ケニヤッタ氏は選管発表を受けて「再びケニアと国民のために身を捧げる」と宣言。「我々は一つの共和国の国民だ。暴力は必要ない」と野党陣営に融和を訴えた。

　ケニアでは、大統領が出身民族を優遇する傾向が強い。ケニヤッタ氏は最大民族キクユ出身で、オディンガ氏は３番目に多いルオ民族の出身。前々回の２００７年の選挙では選挙結果の発表後、大規模な暴動が発生して１１００人以上が死亡。今回も衝突の発生が懸念されている。（ヨハネスブルク＝三浦英之）

そして、週明けの今日。

（ＣＮＮ）　ケニヤの人権団体は１４日までに、大統領選後に発生した暴動により全国で少なくとも２４人が死亡したと発表した。犠牲者には９歳の女の子も含まれているという。

死者２４人のうち１７人は首都ナイロビで殺害されたとしている。

ケニア大統領選は８日に投票が行われ、１１日に現職のケニヤッタ大統領が野党連合候補のオディンガ氏を破って再選を果たしたと発表されていた。

オディンガ氏は、投票に不正があったとして選挙結果の受け入れを拒否。選挙後に起きた抗議行動のほとんどは同氏の支持者によるものだった。選挙管理当局は投票について、自由に行われており、結果も信頼できると強調している。

抗議行動はオディンガ氏の地盤である西部の都市キスムで激化。ナイロビのスラムでも暴動が発生し、目撃者によれば催涙ガスや銃器が使用されたという。

ケニアの赤十字社は１４日までに、暴動での負傷者少なくとも９３人を治療したと明らかにした。

国際人権団体アムネスティ・インターナショナルは、野党への支持が高い地域でデモ参加者が射殺されたとする複数の報道について、当局に捜査を求めた。

ケニアにいて感じることは、

まず、国民の選挙にかける思いが非常に強いということ。

インフラ整備、教育、医療の整備、汚職、就職難…

東アフリカの中では栄えていると言われているケニアですが、まだまだ解決すべき問題は山積みです。

ケニアの人たちは、政治を、国を、本気で変えたいんだろうなと思いました。

そして、驚いたこともありました。

選挙の投票日の前に、教会に行った時。

政治家が演説をしていました。

政治と宗教は切り離されたものだと思っていたので、驚いた瞬間でした。

また別の日、バスに乗っていた時のこと。

たくさん人が集まっていました。

何をしているんだろうと思ったら、なんと政治家が市民にお金を渡していました。

…そんなことしていいのか？

と。

色々見えてくるケニアの大統領選挙です。

8月29日には大統領就任式が予定されていますが、大きな混乱が起こらないことを祈ります…。

In Kenya, we had a presidential election on eight, August.
About a week passed since Election Day. I would like to remember and think about election.

Please look the first photo above.

It was a situation that Nairobi just before the election.
Supporters of NASA, opposition parties, walked with loud music.
They distributed advertisements and flags to people who walked load and people who were on the bus.
It was like a festival merrymaking.
I didn't see these of Jubilee, government party. But in town, there were many supporters who wore the red T-shirt printed the letter "Jubilee".

August eight, it was a Election Day.
Maybe voting time was between seven am to five pm.
I thought we knew the result at night on that day but it didn't...
Finally, we knew it three days after, by the announcement of election committee.

(CNN)Violence erupted after the re-election of Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta this week, leaving at least 24 people dead nationwide, a rights group said.

The victims included a 9-year-old girl, according to the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights.
Relatives said the victims were shot dead in various parts of the nation, including 17 in the capital of Nairobi, the group said.
Kenyatta, the 55-year-old son of the country's founding President, was declared the winner Friday, defeating veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga for a second five-year term.

 He got 54% of the vote while Odinga, a longtime rival, received 45%.

After I came Kenya, I felt that their thought for election were very strong.
Maintenance of infrastructures, education, medical treatment, corruption, scarcity of employment...
It is said that economic growth is dramatically in Kenya, but there are still many problems here.
It seems that Kenyan citizens want to change the politics and country seriously.

And I was surprised sometimes.
When I went to church, before Election Day, politicians did speech at the church.
I was very surprised because I thought politics and religion should be separated.

Also, on the other day.
When I took on the bus, I saw many crowd.
I was wondering what they were doing, then I knew politicians distributed money to citizens.
I just thought " Isn't it illegal?"

I could see many things from election.

August 29, inauguration ceremony of president will be held. I hope nothing bad happens...
