I said "Hello" in Fiji language.

This is a photo I took from the ship when it was almost arrived at Fiji.

A few days ago, I reread my diary I wrote on the ship.
It reminded me a lot of wonderful memories Some of these were memories I'd almost forgotten.
So today, I would like to share on of these my memories, experiences in Fiji.

So I will talk about my experiences in Fiji.

(2017/2/17-2/20)

f:id:SayuriYamamoto:20171118162150j:image

1. Visiting locals

It took two to three hours by bus from capital city, Suva. We arrived one rural village.

First local people guided us village briefly. After that I just walked around by myself.

Soon one locals spoke to me.

"Where are you going? I will guide you."

Thirty seconds later, we arrived his house.

His wife and two kids welcomed me.

She showed their pigs and gave me juice.

Children were interested in strange foreigners.

When I visited, they watched "The Lion King" on TV. According to their mother, they love it so much.

Anyway it was surprising and happy that they welcomed me warmly although I was a stranger, wasn't it?

I enjoyed spending time with them so much.

f:id:SayuriYamamoto:20171118002853j:image

2.  Children in the village

Many Fijian children were very shy. But after a few seconds, they smiled and laughed.

Then I found that I was surrounded by many kids.

Fijian children also looked like photos as other countries children.

f:id:SayuriYamamoto:20171118003356j:image

3. Suva on Sunday

I was surprised because most of stores were closed except for the big mall.

I heard that Sunday is a holiday so people don't work.

There were just a few people on the street. It was really quiet.

f:id:SayuriYamamoto:20171118003122j:image

4. Seemed sushi restaurant

We found restaurant seemed they offered sushi in the mall.

They offered sushi and also shabu-shabu, which is Japanese dishes, a type of hot pot.

There were sushi and some vegetables for shabu-shabu on the conveyor.

If you want beef for shabu-shabu, you can order it then cook will give you.

Honestly I prefer Japanese one but still it was delicious.

f:id:SayuriYamamoto:20171118003204j:image

5. Friendly people

One morning, I just walked around along the sea.

Soon people spoke to me "Where are you going? Did you come here by that ship?"

Also they offered guiding me.

They were so kind!

6. カバ

f:id:SayuriYamamoto:20171118003452j:image

6. Kava

Your first night in Fiji, you're apt to discover than Fijians have a thing for a not-altogether appealing drink called kava. They consider it their "national drink" and enjoy it religiously and with great ceremony for its mild sedative (some say euphoric) effect.

I tried it three or four times in Fiji.

After drinking it, my tongue was little bit tingling.

How was the taste?

Please try and feel it by yourself in Fiji!

f:id:SayuriYamamoto:20171118003647j:image

7. Local market

There were various vegetables, fruits and fishes.

You can buy these tropical vegetables and fruits, or you can just enjoy watching.

f:id:SayuriYamamoto:20171118003723j:image

8. The supermarket

There are not only local market but also supermarkets like above photo in Suva.

You can buy almost everything there.

Staying Fiji three nights was really short for me.
By the way, do you know that Fiji are called happiest countries in the world?

I don't think "material wealth equal spiritual richnes".

For example, Japan developed enough economically, but every year many people died their selves. This fact is really sad and strange, don't you think so?

Then, what is the real "happiness"?

Maybe the answer is different by each person.

But I think still there are some common points among all the people.

In Fiji, I wonder if we can find something like secret of happiness.

Because of this, I want to back to Fiji someday soon.

Thank you very much for reading!
