ケニアでは先週火曜日、8月8日に大統領選挙の投票が行われました。
投票日の前後でどのような動きがあったか、振り返ってみます。
投票日直前の週末、ナイロビの様子です。
最大野党NASAの支持者が、NASAを応援する歌を大音量でかけながら歩いています。
道行く人や車に乗っている人に、旗や広告を配っていました。
お祭り騒ぎです。
与党Jubileeのそうした様子は直接見ませんでしたが、街では"Jubilee"の文字が入った赤いTシャツを着ている与党支持者がたくさんいました。
8日、投票日。
朝7時から夕方5時が投票時間だったと思います。
この日の夜に結果が出るものかと思っていましたが、結果は中々出ず…
結局、3日後の11日、夜8時過ぎに選挙管理委員会による発表がありました。
発表の翌日…
ケニアで８日に投票された大統領選で選挙管理委員会は１１日夜、現職のケニヤッタ大統領が再選されたと発表した。敗れた野党連合候補のオディンガ元首相陣営は「大規模な不正が行われた」と結果の受け入れを拒否する姿勢を示しており、両陣営の間で緊張が高まっている。
選管発表によるとケニヤッタ氏の得票率は５４・２７％で、オディンガ氏は４４・７４％。ケニヤッタ氏は選管発表を受けて「再びケニアと国民のために身を捧げる」と宣言。「我々は一つの共和国の国民だ。暴力は必要ない」と野党陣営に融和を訴えた。
ケニアでは、大統領が出身民族を優遇する傾向が強い。ケニヤッタ氏は最大民族キクユ出身で、オディンガ氏は３番目に多いルオ民族の出身。前々回の２００７年の選挙では選挙結果の発表後、大規模な暴動が発生して１１００人以上が死亡。今回も衝突の発生が懸念されている。（ヨハネスブルク＝三浦英之）

そして、週明けの今日。
（ＣＮＮ） ケニヤの人権団体は１４日までに、大統領選後に発生した暴動により全国で少なくとも２４人が死亡したと発表した。犠牲者には９歳の女の子も含まれているという。
死者２４人のうち１７人は首都ナイロビで殺害されたとしている。
ケニア大統領選は８日に投票が行われ、１１日に現職のケニヤッタ大統領が野党連合候補のオディンガ氏を破って再選を果たしたと発表されていた。
オディンガ氏は、投票に不正があったとして選挙結果の受け入れを拒否。選挙後に起きた抗議行動のほとんどは同氏の支持者によるものだった。選挙管理当局は投票について、自由に行われており、結果も信頼できると強調している。
抗議行動はオディンガ氏の地盤である西部の都市キスムで激化。ナイロビのスラムでも暴動が発生し、目撃者によれば催涙ガスや銃器が使用されたという。
ケニアの赤十字社は１４日までに、暴動での負傷者少なくとも９３人を治療したと明らかにした。
国際人権団体アムネスティ・インターナショナルは、野党への支持が高い地域でデモ参加者が射殺されたとする複数の報道について、当局に捜査を求めた。

ケニアにいて感じることは、
まず、国民の選挙にかける思いが非常に強いということ。
インフラ整備、教育、医療の整備、汚職、就職難…
東アフリカの中では栄えていると言われているケニアですが、まだまだ解決すべき問題は山積みです。
ケニアの人たちは、政治を、国を、本気で変えたいんだろうなと思いました。
そして、驚いたこともありました。
選挙の投票日の前に、教会に行った時。
政治家が演説をしていました。
政治と宗教は切り離されたものだと思っていたので、驚いた瞬間でした。
また別の日、バスに乗っていた時のこと。
たくさん人が集まっていました。
何をしているんだろうと思ったら、なんと政治家が市民にお金を渡していました。
…そんなことしていいのか？
と。
色々見えてくるケニアの大統領選挙です。
8月29日には大統領就任式が予定されていますが、大きな混乱が起こらないことを祈ります…。

In Kenya, we had a presidential election on eight, August.
About a week passed since Election Day. I would like to remember and think about election.
Please look the first photo above.
It was a situation that Nairobi just before the election.
Supporters of NASA, opposition parties, walked with loud music.
They distributed advertisements and flags to people who walked load and people who were on the bus.
It was like a festival merrymaking.
I didn't see these of Jubilee, government party. But in town, there were many supporters who wore the red T-shirt printed the letter "Jubilee".

August eight, it was a Election Day.
Maybe voting time was between seven am to five pm.
I thought we knew the result at night on that day but it didn't...
Finally, we knew it three days after, by the announcement of election committee.
(CNN)Violence erupted after the re-election of Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta this week, leaving at least 24 people dead nationwide, a rights group said.
The victims included a 9-year-old girl, according to the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights.
Relatives said the victims were shot dead in various parts of the nation, including 17 in the capital of Nairobi, the group said.
Kenyatta, the 55-year-old son of the country's founding President, was declared the winner Friday, defeating veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga for a second five-year term.
He got 54% of the vote while Odinga, a longtime rival, received 45%.

After I came Kenya, I felt that their thought for election were very strong.
Maintenance of infrastructures, education, medical treatment, corruption, scarcity of employment...
It is said that economic growth is dramatically in Kenya, but there are still many problems here.
It seems that Kenyan citizens want to change the politics and country seriously.
And I was surprised sometimes.
When I went to church, before Election Day, politicians did speech at the church.
I was very surprised because I thought politics and religion should be separated.
Also, on the other day.
When I took on the bus, I saw many crowd.
I was wondering what they were doing, then I knew politicians distributed money to citizens.
I just thought " Isn't it illegal?"
I could see many things from election.
August 29, inauguration ceremony of president will be held. I hope nothing bad happens...
